Summary

Engineer with 18 years in production systems. 10 years of C#, .NET, and SQL Server in banking and US healthcare analytics, then 8+ years running the data platform and AWS infrastructure behind the Community Health Toolkit, which 180,000+ health workers use every day.

Experience

Medic (Community Health Toolkit)

Data System Lead · May 2018 – Sep 2026

  • Delivered program reporting to 20,000+ internal and partner users by designing the data platform behind it, which synced 50+ partner databases from offline devices into a PostgreSQL warehouse modeled with dbt.
  • Architected a self-service reporting platform that enabled 3,000+ district and municipal health officers to run custom filtered exports on demand, replacing multi-day manual request queues with instant data access and saving 40+ hours per week in analyst labor.
  • Reduced AWS costs by 32% by moving deployments to Graviton instances and resizing storage. Added the arm64 image builds that made the Graviton move possible.
  • Cut refresh time by up to 80% with incremental updates and batching. Dashboards that ran 24 to 36 hours behind moved to near real time.
  • Owned production reliability for 50+ deployments in 10+ countries as the senior escalation point, on call for incidents and the reviews after them.
  • Cut SMS reporting errors by 15% and raised engagement by 20% for about 15,000 health workers in Nepal by making CHT accept Nepali digits in SMS reports, so they no longer switched keyboards mid-report.
  • Led the upgrade of a 2 TB production PostgreSQL database from 9.6 to 18, from the cost estimate through an Ansible-automated cutover, and moved every downstream consumer over.
  • Saved over $20,000 a year in SaaS licensing by leading the migration of all internal and partner-facing dashboards from Klipfolio to Apache Superset.
  • Consolidated 50+ standalone EC2 Docker deployments into Amazon EKS, modernizing container orchestration to drastically reduce cloud infrastructure overhead and streamline service management.
  • Architected and deployed Airbyte as the central data integration platform, automating ELT pipelines across Salesforce, PostgreSQL, Notion, and partner databases to eliminate manual CSV exports and ensure real-time impact reporting.
  • Designed and built Medic’s core impact framework from scratch, replacing manual, hardcoded UNION ALL source scripts with a metadata-driven configuration model to streamline multi-database ingestion.
  • Integrated real-time error catching and automated failure alerting directly into the impact framework, eliminating multi-week silent refresh outages and providing instant pipeline diagnostics.
  • Kept each program’s full history in the impact framework, which helped Medic raise more funding.
  • Owned the technical relationship with a national Ministry of Health, and ran its nationwide upgrade of 30+ production instances.
  • Automated releases for 50+ projects with GitHub Actions, Helm, and Terraform, so every release was tracked, repeatable, and auditable.
  • Stood up and ran self-hosted Kubernetes on government servers.
  • Rolled Superset out to 6 country deployments. Built each country’s instance, access rules, and single sign-on, then handed it to developers who built that country’s dashboards on it.
  • Proposed and designed the Impact Metrics API in cht-core (Node.js), which gave partners impact data without database access.
  • Shipped production features end to end with Claude Code, holding AI-written code to the same review and tests as any other.
  • Turned field visits with health workers in Kenya and Nepal into platform and configuration changes.
  • Led the data systems team and mentored interns and partner engineers.

Cotiviti

Principal Software Engineer · Dec 2014 – Apr 2018

  • Shipped the first release of the DxCG Intelligence rewrite, moving Cotiviti’s US healthcare risk-modeling product off a 20-year-old C# codebase onto a queue-based Java pipeline (Apache Camel, Spring Integration).
  • Owned the technical design of DxCG, Cotiviti’s gold standard risk-modeling product, and led its developer and QA team.
  • Ran Scrum across US and Nepal teams. The team accepted 90 to 100% of planned work every sprint.
  • Hired engineers, QA, and scrum masters for an 80-person R&D department.
  • Received the “Verisk Way to Go” award for leadership.
